IEA MEMBER BENEFITS: REPRESENTATION AND INFORMATION

The Industrial Environmental Association offers a host of benefits that can be categorized in two areas: representation and information.

Representation

  • IEA members are better able to exercise legislative, regulatory and political advocacy through the combined efforts of the membership.

  • IEA members proactively shape environmental legislation at all levels of government.

  • IEA is typically invited to provide input prior to the public comment period when new regulatory proposals are announced by agencies.

  • Legislative and regulatory options can be explored anonymously with regulators through the IEA.

  • Notices of violation can be avoided because members receive announcements of new enforcement practices very early in the process.

Information

  • Members benefit from the exchange of insights and information among technical professionals in a non-confrontational forum.

  • Membership permits networking with other environmental professionals.

  • The IEA committee structure offers not only a method of developing member information but a means of involvement and contribution to the industry.

  • Monthly speakers from a variety of regulatory agencies and other organizations keep members abreast of pending developments.

  • Members receive one complimentary registration to the IEA Annual Conference and Exposition, where numerous workshops and written information provide a major educational opportunity.

Committee Structure

The committee structure is the "workhorse" of the organization, offering a wealth of useful information, monitoring regulation and extending the IEA's reach beyond its own boundaries. The following committees comprise the current structure:

Technical Committees

  • Air Committee: Keeps abreast of agency rules and pending legislation; develops information for members on air pollution issues and proactively participates at the federal, state, and local levels in rule development issues.

  • Hazardous Materials: Monitors hazardous materials rules, regulations and legislation, creating positions for the IEA on hazardous materials issues and proactively participates in the development process related to hazardous materials and hazardous waste.

  • Water: Monitors issues related to water quality, industrial discharges storm water runoff and similar topics; formulates IEA positions as appropriate on water issues. Proactively participates in the rule development process related to water, waste water and storm water runoff.

Operational Committees

  • Conference -- San Diego: Responsible for the organization, content and overall success of the Annual Conference and Exposition, the major industry educational effort of IEA.

  • Executive Committee: A core committee charged with certain operational and policy decisions on behalf of the full board of directors.

  • Membership: Responsible for contacting and informing industrial companies and potential associates concerning the mission and benefits of the IEA, with the goal of increasing corporate membership.

  • Strategic Planning: Long-range planning and strategic direction of the IEA are determined by this committee for presentation to the board of directors.
